Information about the role

Eastern FSU is now seeking Expressions of Interest from GPs to join our established Primary Care Vasectomy training programme. We are recruiting a Trainee as a position has become available for a Vasectomist in the Southern Federation Area.

The training to become a GP with enhanced skills in Vasectomy will take approximately 6 months to complete with a minimum commitment of 2 sessions per month during this time. Training sessions will be remunerated at £250 per session, plus travel costs*, Training will be carried out by Dr Joe Devlin at Bovally Medical Practice, Limavady, on Thursday evenings at 6pm (up to 3 per month).

On successful completion of your training, you will be offered a position in the Southern Federation Area (subject to meeting the essential criteria). We have set the following criteria to use for shortlisting for the training position, a waiting list may be compiled for 6 months.

Essential Criteria

1. Full registration with the GMC or GP Specialty Trainees within 6 months oftheir CCT.

2. On NI performers list

3. Evidence of recent minor surgery training and accreditation.

4. Provision of surgical logbook/audit

5. Willing to commit to minimum of 2 sessions per month for 6 months

6. Willing to travel throughout the region for training

7. Must be able to provide own indemnity to cover this training

Desirable Criteria

1. Experience of teaching and training colleagues in Primary Care Surgery

2. Any previous surgical training or surgical post especially Vasectomy training.

Information about the Vasectomy service

The Vasectomy Service is a regional service with GPs employed by Eastern FSU. This role is offering a training programme expected to last 6 months with an offer of employment within a host practice in the Southern FSU area (Banbridge Group Practice) upon successful completion. GPs work within specially selected host practices to deliver vasectomies for patients
